I learnt this technique from my mentor, Graham Painter. On 300lb watercolour paper, the handmade Unison pastels used here (and other makes) prove water soluble. This enables a specific underpainting to be created and there is also some flexibilty in altering the composition too! You can see how the layers are added gradually building the intensity where appropriate. I have demonstrated this process to many art goups since.
